Looking Back
Ambeth R. Ocampo
The essays compiled in this volume were originally written for the back page Lifestyle section of the Philippines Daily Globe in the late 1980's and were compiled in my first book Looking Back that had remained unchanged in form and content since 1990. After almost two decades in print I have decided to reissue these essays, updated and in a new format, the first in a series that will draw from my recent work and others from Aguinaldo's Breakfast, Mabini's Ghost, and Luna's Moustache that are currently out of print.

Looking onto Ambeth Ocampo's Looking Back |

The book is a compilation of the essays of one of my favorite Filipino author and historian, Ambeth R. Ocampo. The book contains the bits and pieces, odds and ends of our national history that are certainly out of the ordinary. Mr. Ocampo's essays and writings, in my viewpoint, is history without boredom. You won't get bored reading this book. I started reading Mr. Ocampo's essays in Philippine Daily Inquirer and from there I anticipated his next essays. Usually I couldn't catch up to his essays on the paper. So, I when I saw this book in NBS I didn't hesitate to buy it. As I scanned it, it already gave me a giggle or two. It was definitely history beyond the ordinary.I decided to share the book with friends at school and even there it didn't cease to inform and entertain, it made us chuckle, giggle, laugh and all the while we got informed. The book is definitely worth the price. Some essays keep you like 'bitin'. Nevertheless, this is history without the snooze. I'd rather have this book with me than read a long novel. When you read the book, you'l never look at 'monai', 'mamon', even Filipino swear words and at a lot of other things, again. History, comedy and general knowledge, say hello to all of this in Ambeth R. Ocampo's Looking Back.
Thanks and God bless!
