The wait is officially over, and we finally have our Gus! It has been confirmed that Patrick Schwarzenegger will star as the brooding Augustus Everett in the highly anticipated Beach Read movie adaptation, starring alongside Phoebe Dynevor.

The actor confirmed the news on his Instagram, thanking author Emily Henry and director Yulin Kuang for the opportunity, and expressing excitement to work with his co-star, Phoebe Dynevor, who shared the excitement, commenting on his post: “I’m SO unbelievably excited!”
The story of Beach Read
Written by Emily Henry and published in 2020, Beach Read follows two polar-opposite authors: Augustus “Gus” Everett, a cynical literary novelist, and January Andrews, a bestselling romance writer. While living in neighboring beach houses and battling severe writer's block, they strike a high-stakes deal to swap genres for the summer. Through a series of "field trips," Gus and January must complete their books without breaking their one rule: don't fall in love.
The search for Gus Everett
According to Deadline, the search for Gus was an extensive, months-long process. While Patrick Schwarzenegger was initially considered a "dark horse candidate," his chemistry read with Phoebe Dynevor reportedly "blew away" both the filmmakers and the studio, securing him the role. Director Yulin Kuang even noted that the moment the two sat across from each other, there was something "electric" in the room.
Where You’ve Seen Patrick Schwarzenegger Before
Schwarzenegger has recently starred in several notable projects, including the Emmy-winning series The White Lotus, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, and the HBO limited series The Staircase. His credits also include Prime Video’s The Terminal List and The Boys spin-off, Gen V.
On the film side, Schwarzenegger appeared in the Netflix movie Moxie, directed by Amy Poehler, and the sci-fi thriller Warning. He is also set to star in the upcoming Amazon MGM romantic drama Love of Your Life, appearing opposite Margaret Qualley.
Beach Read will be directed by Yulin Kuang, who also serves as the screenwriter. This project marks her return to the ‘Henry-verse,’ following her work on the screenplay for the People We Meet on Vacation adaptation. Although a premiere date hasn't been set, Beach Read is officially in development with 20th Century Studios.
