Mayumi has never liked her name. To her family, her name means being graceful and ladylike: qualities she doesn’t think she has. During a visit to her grandfather in the province, Mayumi clashes with her Tita Saling, who scolds her for being too much of a tomboy. When her frustration finally boils over, Mayumi loses her temper and is sent to time-out. As she cools down, Mayumi wonders if her mother will still love her if she cannot live up to the meaning of her name. Through an honest conversation with her mother and a heartfelt apology to her family, Mayumi learns that she doesn’t have to change who she is to be worthy of love. Hindi Ako Mayumi is a warm story about family, identity, and finding the courage to be yourself.
